Horse riding to Reindeer tribe in the Taiga
The word Mongolia often stirs up an image of ancient warriors on horseback to many. And plenty think that Mongolia is all about horses and wide steppe – well, true to some extent as the Mongols have more than 3 million horses and the country is the 19th largest country by territory. However, Mongolia is a lot more than that – globetrotters are mesmerized by the diverse natural and cultural wonders that Mongolia has to offer.
Hidden in a secluded corner of Northern Mongolia, straddling the border of Russian Siberia, a unique ethnic group lives in the Taiga of Mongolia. The Tsaatan people or the Reindeer herders live a remote nomadic lifestyle and presently, only 44 families (about 500 people) remain. The Tsaatans are deeply connected to the Mother Nature, live in huts, and still practice Shamanism.
This extraordinary adventure journey will take you to northernmost Mongolia and will guide you through the best of it, the exquisite Lake Huvsgul, picturesque Khoridol Saridag Mountains, and the Taiga, where you will meet the Tsaatans “Reindeer herders”. The journey itself can be a big challenge for many, however, the reward is priceless – meeting the shy but kind Tsaatans, playing with their children, helping with their daily chores, feeding their reindeers with much-needed salt, and last but not least, the breathtaking landscape of the Darkhad Valley and the Taiga… Travel conditions of this exceptional adventure are not easy, long rough driving through the least travelled parts of northern Mongolia and horse riding are involved besides camping n tents in the wilderness.
Premium Travel Mongolia tour guides are knowledgeable, experienced, and are happy to be the ambassadors of their country. Plus, travelling extensively in remote Mongolia and discovering the wonders doesn’t mean rough travel conditions all the time. We utilize comfortable 4×4 Land Cruisers for the driving part, and 2 night stay at comfy en-suite Ger camp by the Lake Huvsgul to complete your wonderful Mongolia stay with us.
