Daily Itinerary
Day 1. Ulaanbaatar – the Gobi; Khongor Sand dune via Yol Gorge 90 min flight +5 hr drive
Morning pick up at 5.20am, and transfer to the airport for a flight to the Gobi desert (07.00-08.20hrs). Upon arrival we will have a breakfast in a local restaurant and start our visit to the beautiful Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountains. Eagles overhead scour the desert for prey, while below families of nomads gather for felt-making, or stand in groups beside their livestock at the scattered wells. Enjoy walking in the glacial Yolyn Am Gorge with sights of wildlife. Transfer to tourist Ger camp, and have lunch.
Then we continue the drive to Khongor sand dunes – Mongolia’s largest and most beautiful sand dunes that stretch over 180km in the arid Gobi desert. The drive to the dunes at Khongoriin takes some 3 hours, passing through vast desert badlands that span out into the furthest distances, where remote mountains line the horizon. Evening sunset climb up to the sand dunes. Check in to Ger camp, dinner and overnight.

Day 2. The Khongor Sand Dunes – Bayanzag Flaming cliffs. ~3hr drive.
In the morning, we’ll have a chance to see sun rising from the top of Khongor sand dunes. Then we go backwards to the famous Bayanzag – the Flaming Red Cliffs for 2-3hrs, transfer to ger camp and have lunch. In the afternoon, we visit the nomadic family nearby to experience their daily lifestyle, maybe try to ride a 2 humped Bactrian camel. By the sunset we arrive at the Red Cliffs at Bayanzag, enjoy the wilderness and viewing unique nature formations. Explore around for dinosaur remains and walking in the rich saxaul forest. You can even find real dinosaur bones and eggs yourself! Return to the Ger camp in the evening, dinner and rest.
