Mongolia travel experience – reveal the beauty of Zavkhan province
Stretched for 82500 sq.km, the characteristics of Zavkhan landscape is a striking combination of snowcapped Khangai Mountains, lush green forest, crystal clear lakes and rivers (rich in fish), open steppe and even sand dunes at some parts. Also there are plentiful natural hot springs, which are believed to cure various diseases. This journey will guide you to amazing Khar Lake – a stunning freshwater lake with beautiful sandy shores, where you will spend a few days exploring the nearby natural wonders of Senjit Khad, Mongol Els sand dunes and Naryn River that flows from sand dunes. Soft adventure activities such as horseback riding, fishing and hiking are easily available. Also at nights you can enjoy star gazing at its’ best. You will lodge at the comfortable mobile camp set up by Premium Travel Mongolia, and will enjoy delicious food (including fresh fish from the Lake!) cooked by our skilled tour chef. And make sure you prepare your camera and batteries well as Zavkhan and the Lake Khar area are a super photogenic!
This remote province is home to about 70 thousand people, 60% of whom are nomadic herders whose lifestyle has not been changed a lot since the days of Genghis Khan. You might have heard many stories of travellers being dazed by the sincere hospitality of the nomads. However, if you look deeper into their spirit, you will witness how strong, stern nomadic men can be moved to tears by their race horses rushing to a finish line. Their lifestyle, religion and philosophy are shaped by the Mother Nature to a great degree; and nomadic customs, music, literature and costumes have been passed through centuries. And in this hectic 21^st century only Mongolian nomads welcome strangers with unlocked doors. There will be plenty of occasions you will meet real nomadic people and enjoy their heartwarming hospitality during the journey.

Daily itinerary
Day 0. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. / Shangri - la hotel 5*
Upon arrival meet your tour guide at the airport (after custom formalities) and transfer to Hotel Shangri-La in the city centre. Rest.
The capital of Mongolia is Ulaanbaatar, which was founded in 1639 at some 400km from the current location. Since then it proved to be a real nomadic city and changed locations about 12 times before settling to the current location in 1778. Situated at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level, Ulaanbaatar’s the current center of political, economic and cultural life of the country. The capital Ulaanbaatar has 1 200 000 people, 60 % of them being under 35 years old. (~ 30 min drive)
Day 1. Ulaanbaatar city sightseeing & visit to the Giant Genghis monument/ Shangri - la hotel 5* B L D
Meet with your tour guide and the rest of the group at 9am in the morning, and start the Ulaanbaatar city tour. Today we will visit the most principal sites of Ulaanbaatar including the Gandan monastery – a home to the 26m gilded statue of Megjid Janraisag, and the National Museum of Mongolia. Have welcome lunch. After lunch, we drive for 1hr to Giant Genghis monument – an impressive 46m statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, indeed the largest equastrian statue on earth. Return to Ulaanbaatar in the evening at around 6.30pm. (~ 8 hr excursion)
Day 2. Ulaanbaatar to Zavkhan province, visiting Uliastai/ Mobile camp. B L D
Breakfast at the hotel, check out. Transfer to the airport for flight to Uliastai – centre of Zavkhan province, one of the 3 western provinces of Mongolia. The flight duration is about 2hrs, upon arrival transfer to your mobile camp set about 5km to the local small airport. Have lunch. Then visit the Uliastai museum, local Buddhist monastery and the local bazaar (bazaar is closed on Sunday). Transfer back to the mobile camp, where we will have dinner and bon fire before going to bed. (~ 2 hr flight, ~4 hr excursion)
Day 3. Uliastai to the Khar Lake / Mobile camp. B L D
This morning we will drive to the beautiful Lake Khar for about 3-4 hrs through the pristine and beautiful landscapes of Zavkhan province – one of the least explored areas in Mongolia. Arrive at the Lake Khar and set the mobile camp, where we will spend the next 4 nights exploring the local natural and cultural highlights. The tour chef will treat us with the best of modern Mongolian cuisine as well as the fish from the pristine Lake Khar. (~3-4hrs drive)
Day 4-6. The Khar Lake/ Mobile camp. B L D
On these leisurely 3 days we will meet local nomads to experience nomadic culture and traditions, witness their heartwarming hospitality, and furthermore, will explore the natural highlights by visiting spectacular sand dunes with an oasis, peculiar rock formations etc that this remote and ancient land has to offer. You also can swim or fish on the Lake Khar, or soft adventure activities such as horse riding, yak cart travel etc are available for us.
Day 7. Khar Lake to Uliastai/ Mobile camp. B L D
Enjoy your last morning at the amazing Lake Khar and after lunch drive to Uliastai town, and camp by the River Ider near the small town.
Day 8. Uliastai to Ulaanbaatar – Khui Doloon Khudag/ HS Khaan resort B L D
Say goodbye to our drivers and the tour chef in Uliastai, and with our tour guide we will catch the flight to Ulaanbaatar this afternoon. Upon arrival transfer to the luxury HS Khaan Resort at the rolling green grasslands of the Khui Doloon Khudag. HS Khaan Resort has set a new standard in Mongolian tourism accommodation sector with their lavish 120 sq.m Ger with 180’ view, which gives the feeling of staying in the mighty Khan’s lodging. (~ 2 hr flight, ~ 1.5 hr drive)
Day 9. Khui Doloon Khudag: Mongol Nomadic camp & Hustai National Park./ HS Khaan resort B L D
We will visit the Mongol Nomadic camp this morning to see traditional Mongolian wrestling, archery and ankle bone shooting. And in the early evening we will visit the Hustai National Park, where we will view the Takhi wild horses in wilderness. Return to the HS Khaan Resort in the evening, enjoy farewell dinner and rest. (~ 1.5 hr drive for one way)
Day 10. Departure / 20min drive / B
Transfer to the airport for your flight back home in the morning.
